HOW IT WORKS

Each participating school will be delivered a kit containing:

  • Collection boxes and liners

  • Information sheets

  • Collection bags and labels

Students will be given two clear ziplock bags to take home:

One for plastic and one for metal caps.

Their bags will be labeled and decorated with the waste stream, their name and classroom.

Washed and dry

It is really important that all caps are clean and dry before going into the collection bags.

Sort and separate collected caps

Once clean and dry, the caps are sorted into plastic and metal and placed in the allocated bags.

Take filled bags to school

Students take their filled bags back to their classroom. They will be emptied into the school’s main collection box and the empty collection bags will be ready to be filled again.

Collection of caps

Volunteers from the Hawkes Bay Lions Clubs will visit the school each week to collect the filled bags of caps.

These will then be taken to the local Waste Management site in Napier, ready to be shipped off to be recycled.
